I am looking for anyone who would be willing to host Chinese youngsters from Shandong Province, for 8 nights in February next year. Ideally the kids need to be in pairs as they will very likely not be able to speak much English apart from saying hello and thank you. The idea is that they are coming for piano lessons with me, as well as to improve their English. Host families will only be required to feed them breakfast and dinner, the rest of the time they will be out of your way and house! I know that hosts in Oxford usually are paid £15 a night per person, but I am willing to pay £20 per person, so if you could possibly take on two kids, it will be £40 per night. (Total for the possible 8 nights will be £320).
Although this is not a requirement, it would be ideal if you have a piano, as the children would most probably like to practice a little. Please could you let me know if you would like to be a host. Ideally I am looking for 5-8 host families, the plan is to take on 10 kids, and perhaps their teachers might want to come as well. These kids will be extremely well-behaved, and are hungry for Western influence. A place like Great Coxwell would be an unbelievable experience for them. I would be extremely grateful for any interest in this project, which is very much only in the beginning stages. As this will be a very informal and non-official week, and no school is involved, there are no legal requirements, as this will be their holiday with some piano lessons included. I am however looking into any safeguarding issues that might come up. Thank you, Lynette Stulting (242437, or [email protected]) Citizen’s Advice notes on how to organise a DIY funeral
If you have to organise a funeral for someone and there are no clear instructions in the will, bear in mind that you can organise the procedure without using the services of a funeral director. The Cemeteries and Crematorium Department of your local authority can offer help and guidance, and there are many sources of help online, for instance the Natural Death Centre at www.naturaldeath.org.uk. At the current time, when the high prices charged by funeral companies are under government investigation, an alternative funeral can also cost much less. If you’re on certain benefits you might be able to get help paying for the funeral. Citizens Advice has guidance for people planning a funeral for themselves or their near ones:
For more help, contact Citizens Advice on Adviceline 03 444 111444, or drop in to your nearest Citizens Advice. He has told me that anyone who remembers his parents, who lived in three different houses in Great Coxwell over a period of 30 years (from the 1970s), is very welcome to attend the short grave-side service, and to meet him and his family. Ros and Ian Hall had very happy memories of their residence in Great Coxwell, and the family feels that it is fitting for their ashes to be interred here.
