If we have enough help and enthusiasm we hope to have a traditional village fete around the Great Barn on the afternoon of Sunday 16th July starting at 2pm.

If you have any ideas of stalls you would like to see or run please get in touch.  If you have any brainwaves about games you would like to play or organise also get in touch.

Stalls we have thought of so far: Lucky Dip, Tombola, Bottle Stall, Count the Candy, Produce Stall, Cake Stall
Games on the Cards, Splat the Rat, Skittles, Coconut Shy, Tin Can Alley, Lucky Egg, Hook the Swimming Duck, Tug of War and lots of Children’s games, etc.

Teas, Pims, Ice Lollies.

As you can imagine, we need as many helpers as possible on stalls, on games, setting up and setting down. If you can help, please get in contact or talk to Pauline and Mike, Jacqui, Annabelle, Pat or Laurie.

It should be great fun! And we hope to raise money for the Church, Park and Reading Room.  And last thing : please put this date in your diaries.

Wednesday 5th April - Ethel & Ernest (PG)
(2016 - Animation, Drama, History)
Veteran cartoonist Raymond 'The Snowman' Briggs.  An award-winning graphic novel about an ordinary London family living through extraordinary times, brought to life in this lovingly hand-drawn tale.  Based on Briggs's own parents, the story follows Ernest (voiced by Jim Broadbent) and Ethel (Brenda Blethyn) as they deal with World War II and the years thereafter with a combination of grit, wit and good, old-fashioned British resolve. The movie equivalent of a nice cup of tea and a bikkie!

Stars: Jim Broadbent, Brenda Blethyn, Luke Treadaway

The inspiring true story of Seretse Khama, the King of Bechuanaland (modern Botswana), and Ruth Williams, the London office worker he married in 1948 in the face of fierce opposition from their families and the British and South African governments. Seretse and Ruth defied family, Apartheid and empire - their love triumphed over every obstacle flung in their path and in so doing they transformed their nation and inspired the world.

FARINGDON  & DISTRICT U3A IN APRIL 2017

31/3/2017

The April speaker will be Bjorn Watson talking on Thursday 12th April 2017 in the Faringdon Corn Exchange at 2.30pm.

His subject is “T.E.Lawrence – the man behind the myth.”  Lawrence was perhaps the most charismatic hero to emerge from the carnage of the first World War.  Multi-talented, he was a soldier, guerrilla leader, a scholar, archaeologist, historian, and Arabist, fast boat and aircraft designer, but he is best known as immortalised by Peter O’Toole in the film “Lawrence of Arabia”.  What is fact and what is fiction?  Come and find out at Bjorn’s talk.

Refreshments are available afterwards.  Visitors are welcome but are required to pay an entrance fee of £1.50.  Further details are available on the website - www.faringdondistrictu3a.wordpress.com.
