January 10th - TEAS in the Reading Room 2.30-5pm
January 12th - WI meeting in the Reading Room - all women welcome January 24th - Concert at Stonevale Our first meeting of the year is on Tuesday 12th January when Lew Lawton is going to give an illustrated talk about the Terracotta Warriors of Xi'an.
It's time to pay subscriptions for the following year and Pam will be pleased if you can pay them ASAP, preferably at the meeting. We look forward to seeing you there. Mandy Burns has been on the Parish Council and chairman of the council for many years and been of enormous benefit to the village. Very sadly she is stepping down. We thank her for all her hard work.
Would you like to join the Parish Council? It is about an hour's work a week (two hours a month at the monthly Parish Council meeting in the Reading Room, and another two spread over the month). Some of the things we tackle are managing the Reading room, the park, planning issues and footpaths. To date the council consists of two officers: Jo King - the clerk, Ian Mason - our responsible financial officer, and the councillors: Annabelle Zinovieff, Lauren Gale, Will Selby-Lowndes and Richard May. You can email the newsletter if you would like more information or talk to any of the above who will be happy to answer your questions. Please take a moment to think if you might like to join us. The weekend of the 11/12th June is going to be one of national celebration of Her Majesty the Queen's 90th Birthday. Communities around the country are being encouraged to celebrate particularly in the form of street parties. Could you get in contact with us if you have an idea what we might do to mark this occasion and if you would like to be involved? Maybe our celebrations will tie in with the 'Live at the Tithe' concert in the Great Barn on 12 June.
This year it will just be the Show of Hands Concert in the evening. The concert will be on Sunday 12th June at 7.30 pm, tickets are £19 and we will run a Bar and check with farmer that we may use the field for parking. Obviously we will have toilets and chairs! The website is updated www.liveatthetithe.co.uk
Thanks to you and the village for all your support over the years, Kind regards Derrick, Chris, Ray and Jay Despite most dog owners being thoughtful and responsible about their dog's mess this is getting worse all through the village.
Anna Baatz, Dogs Trust Education and Community Officer for Greater Manchester said: “It’s the small minority of irresponsible dog owners who leave their dogs' mess on footpaths, in parks and green spaces. Many people may not realise that when it comes to disposing of dog waste any public bin will do! Dog owners simply need to pick up their dog waste in a poo bag and place it in any bin.” This appeal about the amount of affordable housing to be allocated to the development, will take the form of a hearing on 19th January 2016. The hearing will be held at Meeting Room 1, 135 Eastern Avenue, Milton Park, Abingdon, OX14 4SB at 10.00am. There is a link on our Planning Applications page.
The procession will start at the lower end of the village, adjacent to the drive to Pear Tree Farm at 5.30 pm, and will then make its way up the village street, arriving at the Barn just before 6.00 pm. Please join Mary and Joseph and our donkey, as we make our way to the Barn (please bring a torch if you would like to join in the carol singing).
There will also be Midnight Mass in St. Giles Church at 11.30 pm. Wishing you all, and all your friends and family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! December 12th - Saturday 10.30 making Christingles
