Faringdon & District U3A -  Meeting on Thursday 14th July 2022

5/7/2022

The speaker will be Helen Plumb, talking about Glorious Coloured Gemstones  in the Faringdon Corn Exchange at 2.30pm on Thursday 14th July.  Helen will explain some of the key attributes of minerals which make desirable gemstones.  We shall all learn new intriguing and surprising facts about gems  - and become more knowledgeable than the average jeweller!  Helen will bring a selection of loose gemstones for members to handle and will encourage questions about all aspects of gemstones and gem set jewellery.  Members are welcome to bring in gems for identification.  After the talk refreshments will be available for everyone.  Visitors are also welcome but must pay a £1.50 entrance fee.

Please remember all those wishing to attend the meeting must be vaccinated to the recommended level and should be in good health.  This is to ensure that we protect all vulnerable members.  If in doubt please stay home!

Golf Course Visit 9th and 10th July 11-15:00

The developer from the Golf Course Holiday Park (Noel Flanagan from Oakgrove Lodges) has invited anyone from the village who is interested to visit the site to have a tour and meet him.  He's arranged two open days on 9th and 10th July between 11 and 3.  He's very keen to have the village involved - he mentioned the papers so there may be marketing involved.

Stonevale Concert

28/6/2022

Dear all,

The next Stonevale concert will be part of the Barn Festival again, like last year.  It will be on Sunday, September 18 at 11 am.  Please follow the link below to purchase tickets for this concert.  I am moving my Yamaha grand piano to the barn again and will be doing a violin recital with the amazing violinist, Sebastian Mueller.  Sebastian will be flying in from Vienna, especially for this concert.  The acoustics in the barn is fantastic for this type of recital, we had a wonderful audience last year, although there were limited space then because of Covid.  We can take more people this year, and we really hope we can fill the barn.

With best wishes,
Lynette

On Sunday Greener Great Coxwell will be adding to the Environmental conversation at the National Trust Family Eco Summit in Coleshill. There is something for everyone from mud kitchens and children’s stories in the organic garden to thought provoking talks about our global food chains from Greenpeace. Ken Hirons will be presenting news of our Community Energy Project, Richard Benwell on Wildlife and Countryside Link and Rachel Wannerton will be helping us find our balance and connection to the earth to start off the day. We will also have fabulous coffee, cake, woodfired pizzas, music, puppet shows, ranger tours and the mill will be open and working. Welcome the new landlords of The Radnor in the beer tent.
