The current scheme which has been running at their Household Waste Recycling Centres for 15 years allowed residents to deposit up to three DIY waste items for free before being charged a small fee of £1 for each additional item.
From the 1st October 2017 this changes to a small fixed fee per item of £1.50 for most non-household or DIY items. Residents can still deposit household waste for free at their local Household Waste Recycling Centre. More information about the changes can be found online at www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/chargeablewaste Oxfordshire South and Vale Citizens Advice says an increasing number of clients are contacting them to express concerns about high energy supply tariffs. Now Citizens Advice nationally has called for suppliers to follow the lead of the energy regulator Ofgem by identifying areas where lower electricity market costs can be passed on to consumers as price cuts. Ofgem has announced that it will reduce the level of the prepayment meter cap from about £1,067 to £1,048 on average, for a dual fuel prepayment customer who uses a typical amount of energy. The reduction was prompted by lower forecast wholesale costs in supplying electricity to prepayment meter customers and also by lower than expected costs to consumers of the government’s Capacity Market auction for the coming winter. A Citizens Advice spokesperson said that energy suppliers should consider following Ofgem’s lead by identifying other possibilities for lower costs to be turned into price cuts. For further help on fuel costs or on other subjects covered by Citizens Advice, visit www.citizensadvice.org.uk or telephone 03 444 111 444 or drop in to your nearest Citizens Advice. Our 150 skilled volunteers work from five locations, are supported by 10 staff, and advise over 10,000 clients each year. All our income is raised locally. On 12th/13th September an inflated tent in a friend’s garden blew away in the storm. It is grey with four inflated ribs, about 8 ft square and about the same height. Unfortunately they were not here to take it down before the storm hit. It will have flown away like a balloon.
If anyone sees it or hears of anyone who has can they please contact me, Pat Cook, (see village email for contact details). Many thanks, Pat One of the ponies in the field next to the donkeys has had his feathers cut off (hair above his hooves) which is a sign that he is a target for theft. Those 3 ponies are now in one of the little paddocks beside Puddleduck Lane and combination padlocks are on both large and small gates into the yard from Puddleduck. Could you please spread the word and ask people to keep a lookout for torchlight /cars/ hoof sound/ neighing, anything untoward and to immediately alert the police and Adam (see village email for contact details).
Thank you. The Fairer Sex - Women and the Great Western Railway is the topic of the September talk given by Dr Rosa Matheson, a local author and well-known railway historian in Faringdon Corn Exchange at 2.30pm. The Great Western Railway struggled with this question for many years - as it believed that “the first aim of women’s existence is marriage” but women were the cheapest form of labour! Refreshments available after the talk. All members are welcome to attend but visitors are required to pay £1.50.
