Badbury Bluebell Weekends – Volunteers needed

Do you love the bluebells at Badbury? Well, so do we, and this year we want to staff Badbury at the key weekends of April 29/30/May 1, May 6/7 and May 12/13. We are looking for volunteers to help us park cars, meet and greet visitors, hand out leaflets etc., so that our bluebells are protected from damage. A minimum of 2 hours in a shift will really make a difference.

With the considerable increase in the number and the variety of cons and scams, thieves are adapting their methods to come up with new ways to steal your personal data and other information.

On most new credit or debit cards, you will see a wireless symbol which informs you that your card uses Radio Frequency Identification RFID technology. This allows you to simply tap your card on card-readers to make payments of up to £30.

However, this comes with security risks, as criminals can create an RFID reader with minimal effort and steal your details. They can also download an app onto their Smartphones to achieve the same results. They only need to brush past your pocket or bag with their device to do this. You might not even notice it happening.

You can prevent this happening with the Card Defender. This is a sleeve card holder that provides RFID - blocking technology and it protects contactless cards from being read. A similar device was demonstrated on a recent edition of BBC TV's 'Rip off Britain’.

We recommend that everyone carrying contactless cards should have one or more Card Defenders. This also applies to Oyster cards and students' ID cards.

Card Defenders are now available from Thames Valley Neighbourhood Watch Association for just £1.00 each; 5 for £4.00, or 7 for £10.00 plus postage.

Safe and Well Visits from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service

Did you know that Oxfordshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service offer free Safe and Well Visits? Our firefighters will visit you at home to see what they can do to help you reduce the risk of fire.

What does a visit cover? It combines a Home Safety Check to help reduce the risk of fire in your home, such as checking and fitting smoke alarms and helping you make a fire escape plan. We can also offer you advice and support to help your health and wellbeing.

During the visit firefighters are able to provide advice and support to reduce any immediate risk from falls, fire, flood or power cuts, along with advice to help protect you from scams and doorstep crime.

Street Names for The Steeds

Great Coxwell Parish Council expect to be asked to choose the names for the streets in The Steeds. We have agreed to take inspiration from the names on the war memorial in honour of the men from the village who gave their lives in both world wars.

Is there anyone who would like to do a bit of research into our village soldiers who died? Is there a soldier who survived who we would particularly like to honour and remember?
