Great Coxwell WI would like to invite you to come to our meetings. We are a small friendly group and meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7.30 pm in the Reading Room. We have different speakers every month as well as time for a drink, raffle and chat.

The Phone Box Book Exchange

I’ve ‘refreshed' the Book Exchange for the New Year! I’ve removed quite a few of the older books and added another two or three shelves of new ones. And, thanks to Vince and Libby Jerrard, who kindly donated a couple of boxes of Sheila Lee’s books to us, there's some really nice stuff in there. Books do go a little damp in the phone box, but they seem to be surviving OK. However, interested parishioners might like to have an early look and take what they would like sooner rather than later.

I also found a child’s navy blue pullover in the phone box. Made by ‘Carrol’ - looks nice quality. If anyone wants to claim it, give me a call.

Facebook’s new Parent Portal

Facebook has launched a new Parent Portal to help parents keep the children safe online. The Portal gives parents, teachers and guardians the tools they need to ensure the children in their care are safe when using Facebook. The portal can be accessed here.

Faringdon & District U3A in January 2017

U3A is holding its annual party on Thursday 12th January in the Corn Exchange. January Japes is to start at 12.15 for 12.30 at a cost of £15.00. The meal is a pre-ordered 2 course meal with a drink and coffee/tea to follow before the talk by Peter Wentworth on “The Mile High Magician”. Details for the menu are in the newsletter. Tickets can be ordered from Rita Higazi. We can only cater for 90 guests so please book early to avoid disappointment. Alison Thomson

KEEP WARM KEEP WELL

Pharmacies across Oxfordshire will be providing people with free thermometers this winter to make sure their homes are warm enough to keep them well. Patients over 60 will be offered information cards, provided by OCC, when collecting prescriptions, that will remind them that one of the best ways to stay well during the winter is to stay warm, and advise them to have their home heated to at least 18°C. The free hot water bottle shaped card features a thermometer to test the temperature of their home to make sure it’s warm enough. People with concerns about their heating bills will be advised to contact the Affordable Warmth Helpline on 0800 107 0044. The free helpline is provided by an independent charity and is funded by local councils. It offers free advice and guidance on reducing energy bills, heating homes efficiently and affordably, available grants and financial assistance. Robin passed away peacefully on the 10th December 2016. Her funeral service is to take place at St Giles Church, Great Coxwell on Thursday 22ndDecember 2016 at 2:30pm. * The Nativity Procession and Barn Service on Christmas Eve, which will begin as usual at 5.30pm at the lower end of the village (by the entrance to Pear Tree Farm) and reach the Barn just before 6.00pm.

* The Midnight Mass in St. Giles' church at 11.30pm on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Fair

Thank you to all who helped at the fair and all who came and donated so generously. We made a wonderful £640, split £320 each to St Giles Church and the Park.
