This Sunday is Palm Sunday, a week before Easter Day. This year it is our turn at St Giles to host the service at the usual time of 10.30 when palm crosses will be given out to the congregation. It will start outside (weather permitting) in the Contemplation Garden at 10.25 and will then move into the church.
Please come and join us. Dear all,
Here is a flyer for this Sunday's concert at St Giles Church in Great Coxwell. Some of you will remember Irena as a young girl, coming regularly to Stonevale to give concerts. Irena is now a sought after and very established pianist, playing regular concerts. Hope to see you there! Best wishes, Lynette Historic England has a great collection of photos, some of which show Great Coxwell, mostly the barn and church - the ones from 1895 show how much has changed.
I've put them on a new Local History page - here. The following documents have been add to this page:
Parish Council Meetings and Minutes
Don't miss this afternoon's concert and talk at St Giles' Church, starting at 4pm. Since being diagnosed with breast cancer and focal dystonia in 2012 and Parkinson's Disease in 2018, Nina Schumann has drawn on her status as one of South Africa's foremost concert pianists to raise awareness about living with these conditions, while providing support and guidance to musicians and non-musicians navigating similar challenges. Tickets are available on the link, but also at the door with the usual donation box. I really want to fill the church for her but also to further our chances of getting the bathroom and kitchen sorted in the church.

From 12pm until 4pm in the Reading Room. We will be serving sandwiches, cakes and a glass of fizz. Please come along and join us. This event will be supported by the Community Fund. The Friends of St. Giles is delighted to announce their new charitable status to support the 12th century church in Great Coxwell.
The charity will run independent of the Church and Parochial Church Council (PCC) and be governed by the Trustees who are committed to raising fund for maintenance, repair and improvement of the church. Dating back to the 12th century, the Parish of St. Giles church has been essential to Great Coxwell's history with early records indicating it was gifted to the Cistercian Abbey by King John. Friends of Saint Giles would like to help the Church remain available to the village for both religious and secular events by ensuring maintenance and repair and continuing improvement to benefit the Great Coxwell community. Immediate plans are to rebuild the roof which will require substantial funding. The Friends of St. Giles will organise and oversee fundraising activities over the coming years. Membership of the Friends is open to anyone who wants to join, fundraise and support the charities goals. Alternatively, we would greatly appreciate any contributions to help rebuild our roof. If you would like to donate, please contact the Treasurer of the FOSG ([email protected]) or visit the church and collect a leaflet. |
