Harvest Festival at St Giles

On Sunday (13th October) we have our Harvest Festival at St Giles. Now that our vicar, David, has retired, the service will be taken by the Rev Max Young, one of the clergy who have agreed to cover our communion services during the time we will be without a vicar - thought to be in the region of 9 months to a year. We would welcome anyone who would like to come and help us celebrate this traditional occasion in the Church's year. Please come and join us.

Citizens Advice launches energy advice drive

Your local Citizens Advice is launching its annual initiative to help people in financial need who find it hard to pay their energy bills.

The project, called the Energy Advice Programme (EAP), is going live throughout Oxfordshire South and Vale from October to March 2020. It includes comprehensive steps to help people who have to spend a significant proportion of their income on fuel bills.

At an EAP appointment our advisers, depending on your particular problem, can do one or more of the following:

Help you understand energy companies' tariffs and bills.
Provide information and support on switching tariff or supplier, identifying any savings you might make.
Give advice on energy efficiency measures and list any grants available to pay for these.
Carry out benefit entitlement checks and help you claim any benefits to which you might be entitled. We can help you apply for the Warm Home Discount and the Priority Services Register, if applicable.
Assist with any customer service complaints you might have against your energy company.

Teas on Sunday

Don't forget to come along for Great Coxwell Village Teas on October 13th, 2.30 to 5pm. There will be a Harvest theme (beetroot chocolate cake, apple drizzle cake, blackberries and sloes etc) in addition to our favourites - cheesecake, bakewell tart and roulade.

Citizens Advice seeks volunteers

Citizens Advice Oxfordshire South and Vale is looking for volunteers to work in our friendly offices in Abingdon, Didcot, Faringdon, Henley and Thame.

As well as volunteer advisers, we also need receptionists, IT specialists and administrators.

Once trained, volunteer advisers can make a real difference to our clients by helping them overcome problems they face with benefits, debt, employment, housing or family relationship issues.

Last year our 160 volunteers advised over 11,000 people face to face and by phone. We were able to help two thirds resolve their problems.

Volunteer advisers can, if they wish, progress to being paid supervisors. We offer a flexible and supportive working environment.

Dog Walkers

Can dog walkers please collect their dog’s poo off the footpaths when on walks and then take it home with them to dispose of.

Dog walkers are not removing their dog’s “poo” along many of the footpaths around the village especially through the Church Yard.

Some of those who do collect in poo bags then throw the poo bag down on the path or hang from a hedge.

Faringdon & District U3A in October 2019

Tuesday 1st October Faringdon Corn Exchange Open Day 10am - 12noon
This is an opportunity for potential members to meet other people, and to investigate different groups. Refreshments are available. There is no charge.

Thursday 10th October
Paul Colley will talk about his latest project “Bats - secret lives revealed with award winning photography” in the Corn Exchange. Paul’s new project started this spring; he is working with some local bat conservation groups. The project has a high public profile due to its imagination and novelty. Paul will discuss the project and illustrate it with photographs. Refreshments are available after the talk which starts at 2.30pm. All members are welcome but visitors are required to pay £1.50.
