The "Help to Claim" service will be available in England from 1 April 2019 over the telephone, face to face, and online through “webchat” and Internet content.
We can advise on your eligibility, set up an email address or Universal Credit account, fill in the initial application form, get access to a computer, or arrange advance payments. We can also help you by ensuring that the right evidence is submitted with your form. And if you only need minimal help with your application, Citizens Advice can provide tips if you get stuck. As part of its normal service, Citizens Advice also supports people who are already receiving Universal Credit. The national Freephone number for Help to Claim is 0800 144 8444. Telephone and webchat services are available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Monday-Friday) For any other issues you might need help with, please telephone the Citizens Advice Adviceline on 03 444 111 444. Come and see us in person if you prefer. For locations of offices and opening hours see www.citizensadvice.org.uk/local/oxfordshire-south-vale Can you spare an hour or two a week to listen to children read in a local primary school?
Schoolreaders is looking for more volunteers in Oxfordshire to carry out this important role. Reading time for many children at home and at school is often insufficient and according to Government statistics, one in four children are now leaving primary school unable to read to the expected standard. This can have lifelong consequences. Schoolreaders is flexible and aims to match your availability to an appropriate, local school. No qualifications are necessary, just a good command of spoken and written English and a commitment of one year is requested. Our volunteers find the scheme incredibly rewarding, knowing that a few hours helping a child learn to read each week can have such a great impact on their life chances. Please visit the website www.schoolreaders.org to join or call 01234 924111 for further information. Due to a water leak the water has had to be turned off in the Reading Room and as a consequence the room is closed until next week. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this and will do all we can to have it fixed fast.
This will be held this year on Tuesday March 26th at 7.30pm at the Vicarage. It is our opportunity each Spring to reflect on the past year and to look forward to the year ahead, and in particular to receive the annual reports and accounts, and to hear about developments in the church locally and more widely. We will also be electing (or re-electing) the church officers for the coming year. Everyone is welcome; and a glass of wine and nibbles on offer at the end of the meeting. Please could you let us know if you are coming so we can plan the seating accordingly.
David, Pat and Peter Vicar and Churchwardens Please keep your speed down in the village especially near the turnings to The Laurels and the bend near the bottom of the village. There have been a number of near misses and people are finding it dangerous pulling out from The Laurels in to Holloway as traffic passes at such a speed. It is generally understood that 20 mph is the maximum recommended speed in a village setting. It is the responsibility of us all to drive with care and consideration for our fellow villagers. Valerie Calderbank, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, will talk on A Tour of The Universe in the Corn Exchange at 2.30pm after a speedy AGM. Her talk will be accompanied by stunning images.
Valerie is an experienced international presenter and cruise ship lecturer; her talk is. light-hearted, entertaining and not too technical, but will contain awe-inspiring facts. After the talk refreshments will follow to which everyone is welcome but visitors are required to contribute £1.50. Further information is available on the website https://faringdondistrictu3a.com/ or from the chairman Margaret Brown on 01367 615 385. We have District Council elections and local elections coming up on the 2 May. The Parish Council have the full 5 members but if you would like to put yourself forward as a potential parish councillor please talk to Annabelle Zinovieff (email newsletter) or the Parish Clerk [email protected].
A request has been received from Thames Water for a temporary road closure to apply to a section of Challow Road whilst water mains works are carried out. This will operate from the 13 April 2019 up to and including the 15 April 2019. This is a 24 hour closure.
Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles and for those frontages within the closure area, subject to the progress of the works and liaison with the works supervisor. |
